Hogs Back again

Shanti reports…

We did an easy walk on the Hogs Back track today. Last time we started at Castle Hill Village and went as far as Picnic Rock. This time we started at Mt Cheeseman so that we could connect the missing dots on the trail.

It was a lovely morning, with mist still hanging in the valleys, but the mountain tops were clear. It didn’t take long to get to Picnic Rock. We then walked for about another hour and then turned to head back - something about chores and housework that the humans needed to get done. Below are some of the photos…

A few weeks ago we met a man replenishing wasp bait traps with his dog Lucy on our Camp Saddle trip that turned out to be a Hamilton Peak summit. I didn’t like Lucy then. The man was mountain biking on “our” trail with Lucy again. I’m still not sure about her, but I behaved a bit more gentlemanly this time.

My back scratch got interrupted. There was a cyclist speeding along my back scratch patch… errr… ok…along the trail. Mum called me out the way just in time.

P.S. Should I be worried? Mum was telling Liz the names of all those TALL mountains and saying that you can get up to most of them by walking along the ridge. One of them, Mt Cloudsley, has been on Mum’s to do list for a while - and she’s just found out that it is on the new Graduate Mountain Dog Challenge list. I think we’re going to be heading back here soon… Mum has measured it on the map. It’s about 4.5km along that long ridge, which actually is called Long Ridge.

That gives you some idea of the walk involved in going up Mt Cloudsley. You walk up that long ridge in front of Leith Hill and keep following the ridge. Not sure about this one. Looks like a lot of scree to me!
