Mt Barossa

Today we headed to the Hakatere Conservation Area to climb Mt Barossa. It is 824m up over about 3.5km. So not very long, but pretty steep and as we’ve discovered steep slows down humans more than dogs.

We started in reasonably clear conditions on a route that Mum said felt like it went up forever. As the gradient eased off a bit, the mist came in as you can see below.

The mist was pretty thick and visibility was down enough that Mum was worried about finding our way safely back down. She had her GPS out and was making waypoints every so often. By the time we got to the top, it was a whiteout. I’ve sort of gotten used to the idea that there might be no view.

Here’s our team summit shot.
I gave Mum a celebratory kiss too.

Below are some of the more scenic shots from the trip up or down.
