Mt Thomas with snow
Just two days after our trip up Foggy Peak in the snow, we were off on another snow adventure. Mt Thomas was on the agenda, and this was the third summit of Mt Thomas for me. We followed our first route, which was up Wooded Gully and down the Summit Track. We’ve also done the Red Pine route up and Summit Track down, but we seem to be missing that story (and probably a few more).
There was quite a bit of snow, and although it wasn’t snowing or raining it was damp walking as a result of the snow melt falling like rain from the trees. It got a bit unpleasant for the humans after a while, but us dogs didn’t mind at all.
The humans were much happier once we got out of the trees. It was a bit windy and cold, but there wasn’t a constant wet dripped which helped their morale and increased the chances of treats. The track was also very busy (as it often is on weekends) with a lot of people and dogs.
Lunch was near the trees just below the summit and out the wind. We met Andy on the track there too, out with a walk with his even-year-old son. Mum did a hike with him and some other people up Mt Bruce about 10 years ago when she first arrived in New Zealand.
The views going down were pretty good too - but the humans were mostly over the snow, for now.
