Detours and Mt Grey

Shanti reports…

Today we headed to Mt Grey for another Mountain Dog Challenge walk. We left nice and early to beat the heat, but then Mum got us lost. Her GPS told her to turn off the correct road - and after some hesitation she did. It was a very scenic trip on a dirt road skirting around the mountain.

When we got to stockyards and a few farm gates and what was clearly a farmyard it was time to concede that we were not where we should be.

An hour later than planned we arrived at the start. Mum was a little frazzled, but her mood improved on the walk up through the forest. The track has a fairly gentle gradient which seems to be a bonus if you only have two legs.

What good dogs! Did someone say treats?

It was a lot hotter when we got above the treeline. We made it to the trig for our official summit photo and lunch break. After the photo I secured a spot in the only shade, right under the beacon.

The humans decided that there was enough time to explore the Red Beech route down, so off we went continuing over the hill and up and down the other side for a 16km round trip. I was a very tired dog by the time we got to the car.

Mum also ended up with a touch of heat exhaustion and went straight to bed when she got home. I wasn’t complaining, the rest was welcome.
